"To Live My Life The Way I Want, To Sing And Do Whatever I Please"

Female musicians and singers are featured on this episode, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day! So we had some extremely good tunes today, with a special focus on Jamaica, the tiny island of great music, super sound systems, massive amounts of records, and the best singers and players.
Louise Bennett is one of the heroes of independent Jamaica, and this week she sings the mento classic Linstead Market.  Also see the video below from Marcia Griffiths, one of the I-Threes (the back-up singers for Bob Marley and Wailers). Ms. Griffiths sings us a song (that I don't remember hearing before) from the 80s-90s, but apparently Electric Boogie introduced the world to the dance called The Electric Slide. The video is incredibly charming and shows us how easily Jamaica and New York mesh together into total awesomeness. Enjoy!
